STONE SETTING IN SILVER  2 DAY COURSE

2 DAYS CONSECUTIVE DAYS (10am to 5pm)

In this 2 day class we will look at setting brilliant cut round stones in a variety of styles commonly used in the jewellery industry. Focusing on the many different ways the same style of stone can be used to create different effects.

You will be introduced to specialist stone setting tools used to set stones in a variety of styles. Focussing on both traditional tools and styles to give you good understanding of the techniques used and how to apply them with confidence.

Day one will focus on Setting Round brilliant cut faceted stones, in to both heavy rub over collets and Claw settings, including creating a seat for the stone pushing the metal over and bright cutting to finish.

Day two will focus on flush and grain setting, smaller round brilliant cut stones, the tutor Stephen will discuss his own personally developed methods to flush set stones and introduce learners to creating a simple grain setting this is the basis for learning more advanced grain setting styles such as pave.

We will also discuss how to correctly use and sharpen the scorpers used in setting these stones, the different scorpers available and there correct uses.

Throughout the day the tutor Stephen will demonstrate and explain each step in detail giving you a good understanding not just of what to do but also why we do things that way and how this information can be applied to other stone setting styles developing your understanding of the subject as a whole.

Experience required:

For this course you will need some prior jewellery making knowledge. You should be able to use hand tools and some experience using a pendant motor would be an advantage.

• At least some sample pieces depending on skill level.
