Diploma Course – Level 3 Diploma in Rhino Cad

5 Month Course

Modelling ideas in 3D widens the scope for jewellery designers, allowing for more intricate, elaborate and innovative designs. This beginners Level 3 Diploma is the perfect platform to learn the essential 3D modelling skills to turn your ideas into beautiful designs.

This course meets two days each week for five months and explores the various Rhino tools and commands that you need to know in order to develop your ideas. You will gain an understanding of the interface and the ways in which Rhino uses points, lines, surfaces and solids to create printable 3D objects as well as repetitive and complex geometric shapes to produce minimalist and elegant jewellery, all within a few weeks.

Your learning will be guided through five stages:

  • Stage 1 (4weeks) – In the first stage of the course, the student will learn the basic tools and commands to create simple, polished designs. The step by step learning structure within this course allows for a deeper understanding of the CAD program.

  • Stage 2 (4weeks) – The second stage will advance the student’s skills and ideas to enable you to develop more complex, intricate designs and concepts. During this stage, the student will work on several small projects to develop a profound understanding of the CAD program as a whole.

  • Stage 3 (4weeks) – In this stage of the course, the student will be working on a specific design brief. Using this investigation of trial concepts and ideas, each student will translate their design brief into a finished product. In doing so, jewellery bench skills such as soldering, linking and polishing will be taught so as to produce a final wearable, durable and creative piece of jewellery to wear.

  • Stage 4 and 5 (8weeks) – In this final stage of the course, the student will be working with a live client to design pieces of jewellery to their specification. This will give the student an insight into commission based work, an understanding into dealing with clients and also increases business knowledge.

Course Topics include:

  • Designing a range of jewellery pieces - Using basic commands in different ways to create a number of items; for example, rings, earrings, pendants and findings.
